Case of the Mondays (open)

Ichabod Wells was nervous for his first doctorly duty here at this wayward asylum. Too nervous to raid the mini-fridge in the break room?
Not likely.
After discreetly disposing of two nips of whiskey from the communal stock, he sagged into a stuffed chair & searched his pockets for his supplies. Lighter? Check. Smokes? Check. Open window far enough away from the smoke alarm? Check, check, check.
His nerves eased & began to swim in a puddle of booze & a fog of nicotine. After letting his head loll off of the chair in silence for two minutes, he straightened & searched his bag for a music device. Never one for frivolities, he pulled an old-fashioned tapedeck from his briefcase & put headphones over his ears. He kept one ear uncovered to listen for footsteps, in case a supervisor may find him slacking off & reprimand him.

The sound of Dripping water echoed around the employee lounge. It was Slow and something most people would ignore, But Lucy had Amplified the sound to William's ear. She made it louder and louder until she could stir the man. from his music haze. She waited just outside the room, waiting for him to come out to meet the ghost of Revenge.

William's eyes twitched underneath his lids as a calming trickle sounded. Yet it grew louder every minute, descending on him like Chinese water torture, until he ripped his headphones from his ear to stride over to the sink in the lounge to check its plumbing.
"For Christ's sake." He began muttering & fiddling with pipes, looking for the source.

Watching William Fiddle with the pipes would have made any other person laugh, But not Lucy. She Floated behind him, Watching him captivated. She drifted back into the corridor and made one of the pipes out there Creak loudly drawing him Closer to her. The Dripping water Quickened it's pace as Lucy's Patience stretched.

William had received only a very short introduction to the asylum & its floor plan during his interview for his position, & so he hesitated as the sound moved to the hall & made the pipes groan. However, his restless nerves would not let the noise get away unattended, & so he strode after it as he fumbled for a cigarette.

As William Appeared in the Hall, The faintest twitch of a smile appeared on her face, but in a flash it was gone. She Floated up behind him, Water trailing behind her. The With the smallest twitch of an eye, The pipe To the side of Her gave a cracking Shudder, and she let herself be visible to William, inclining her head slightly.

Will reflexively jerked back at the noise, embers falling from his cigarette. They sizzled in the puddle around his boots. He looked down, brow knitting, then turned. He went rigid, silent, staring at this damned apparition of a girl as his eyes shined with liquor. His hands shook as he leaned back against the wall for support, guiding his cigarette back into his mouth. The tremors coursed through his skeleton visibly, & his teeth ground together audibly as he tried to suppress a shriek.

Again, the flicker of a smile twitched in the corner of Lucy's mouth. "William" She spoke, her voice seemed ethereal and sounded so young. She seemed to drift closer and came to his level. looking in to his eyes. "I have come to deliver Revenge, yet I do not Condone what my Victim speaks off. He wished to Destroy you for taking his Job. I see not a reason to. Speak in your Defense and I shall deliver my verdict." She Glided back slightly, still piercing him with her eyes.

William took in breath sharply, turning his face away for a moment to collect himself. His thoughts raced. This was just an average job, like any other job, he hadn't- he didn't think he- he didn't mean to-
"I- I, oh, God, I just took this job! I didn't- a colleague recommended it to me, I- Maybe- "
Terrible scenarios ran through his head. What if he had been to blame for something terrible? He could only assume foul play & not something as simple as being laid off. Ghosts didn't appear to people to get revenge for being fired from a job.
Perhaps a patient he'd driven further towards insanity had struck out against this doctor he had never met, never known. William finally brought himself to look into Lucy's eyes, shuddering again at what he saw.
"What have I done?" He pleaded. "What happened?"

"I must admit, It seems unclear to me what Sin you have committed against them." Lucy said, no emotion in her voice. "However, I can see in to your Mind William Ichabod Wells, and you have a tainted soul. You have brought Pain, and shall bring pain to many people, patients and employee's alike" She brought herself up higher than him and then threw her arms out to the side, Emitting a Silver glow. Her eyes Narrowed and her voice became Demonic. "Now speak Sinner, Speak your defense before I drown you. What excuse have you for the Pain and Insanity you have brought upon God's people."

Being the only mortal being in the asylum, William was considerably more fearful of this apparition than some of our other lovely cast may be. He made this obvious by choking on a shout, putting up a hand for mercy.
"Oh God, please, God- " he attempted to steady himself, to think. This... This thing. Knew everything. It must.
"I try, I-I really try!" He began, eyes glazing with earnest sadness. "I just want to be a good doctor! It is all I ever wanted! Just to be a good. Normal. Doctor!"

Lucy's eyes narrowed and a smile found it's way on to her lips. "Your efforts are fruitless Doctor." she said "speak of one patient you have done good to? Say one good deed and I shall bring you the head of your percecutor." she seemed to shrink slightly and her face fell in to melencholy. She looked like an innocent child if not for her ethereal appearence.
