Please try to follow these rules when it comes to building characters! If you don't then your character will not be approved!
The profiles are the Asylum inmate records and employee records! Try to have fun when writing the profile but do treat it as if it were official papers.
All characters must be approved by a staff member before RP-ing.
Although this is an Emilie Autumn's "Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls" inspired RPG, we are going to allow both female and male characters in both time eras.
Characters can be whatever you want! Human, vampire, furry, talking muffin, leech, rat, demon; as long as they have a complete profile that follows the rules.
You can have as many characters as you can make.
As stated in the general rules, you cannot make your character godly. Besides the obvious rules such as 'don't grow 20 ft tall and smash the buliding,' or 'don't give you character the ability to rewind time' here are some guidelines to help you with this....
If your human character has a special power/ability you must explain how they have it.
Shape Shifters cannot turn into every possible animal. Choose: either 3 realistic animals, or one mythical creature. Mythical creatures that don't count are Death Gods or anything divine related. If you change into creatures such as dragons then you can't breathe fire. If the human form can't then neither can the animal.
Vampires must have a limit to their methods of travel (phasing through walls, turning into bats, etc.).
If time control is used, please...explain how!
It's actually pretty simple. Don't make your character unstoppable, and don't abuse your control. Remember, your RPs involve your partner. They deserve to add elements and plot twists to the story just as much as you do.
Should your character have a strong case of memory loss you still have to post his/her full background in the profile. You cannot simply say 'he doesn't remember' for anything. Why? If only the character creator knows the characters history then how is one's RP partner suppose to help write a story so that the character can regain his memories. Remember, the profiles aren't really written by the characters themselves. In order you get the most out of an RP, both players need as much info on each other's characters as possible.
Please post characters in the right category! The Asylum has two different time periods. The Modern Era and the Victorian Era.
Do not feel as though you have to rush character creation. If you feel the need to take a break or something calls you away from the computer, simply post it in the 'Characters In Line' board and titled the post "Insert Character Name Here (Unfinished)" so that admins will know not to review it yet.
You will notice in the profile layouts that it asks for your characters sexuality, a picture, Cell Mate, Cell Number, and 6 treatments.
If you feel uncomfortable with giving your character a sexuality to identify with then you don't have to! Simple delete the line! The same goes for really anything that wouldn't seem required!
Pictures are optional but help when visualizing the RP. You may use any picture from any TV show, Movie, Book, Anime, Comic, Drawing...anything; just as long as the picture is 'PG.'
You need at least three treatments for inmates! No acceptation!
You cannont have the same treatment twice in one day.
All Victorian Characters are required to have Leech Therapy.
All Modern inmates are required to have Physical Therapy or Outdoor Terapy.
When filling out 'Cell Mates' AND Cell Numbers you don't need to get so worked up! There is another thread where it can be arranged. Admins will be in character of assigning cell mates and numbers.
We do not expect every character to have different cell numbers but we do ask that you keep the numbers different from your own characters!
Cell Numbers will go by Ward, cell number then inmate letter. (So if an inmate is in Ward A, Cell 107 and is the 3rd inmate to be submitted then his/her cell number is A-107-03). If in quarantine then the inmate will simply have no number. You will now be allowed up to 5 inmates per cell, meaning 4 cell mates per person but they must all be of the same sex. Odd cell number belong to the boys and even numbers belong to the girls.
Medication will be provided everyday when you wake up and go to bed.
Your characters may not share a cell together! They must be with someone else character!
NO ONE, (and I repeat) NO ONE, may take Emilie Autumn's real cell number unless they have the canon character profile!
After a character is approved and moved to the final boards, that doesn't mean you can't continue to edit your character. You can still develop your characters in role plays and change the profile if you wish just as long as it sticks to the rules and doesn't go too extreme such as a new name or history.
You have to apply to have a canon character just like everyone else! Canon characters in this situation would be Emilie Autumn, Emily, Basil, Doctor Sharpe, and Madame Mournington.
You may only have the rights to one Canon Character.
If you hold the rights of a canon character then you must post regularly! If you do not make a single post for 6 months you will contacted for questioning. If you don't make a post for 12 months then you will be stripped of your canon character and notified.
If you take on the role of a Canon then you must be willing to RP in every sense the real person would otherwise don't bother applying! For example: If you have the EA profile but won't do a lesbian RP because its not your style...don't apply! If such a situation occurs you will stripped of your canon so that the proper role player my claim it.
Don't even bother applying for a canon character until you have reached the 'Inmate for Life' level.
