Diary: thewaywardasylum.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=journals&action=display&thread=150
Appearance
Build: Malnourished, small, his skin sucked up against his ribs.
Hair: To his back, thin, & black. He likes to keep two tresses in the front in long curls.
Eyes: Grey, too large for his head.
Clothing: Godelieve is a fan of waist-training, so he does like to wear his corset nearly constantly. Usually he’s in full dress; blouse, petticoat, full skirt, & gloves, along with too much rouge.
Identifying Marks:
Overall Appearance: Godelieve can be hard to look at when he’s not covering himself in layers of lace, as he is painfully underweight (he likes to starve himself). He keeps his eyes open very wide, less doelike & more unsettling. A girlish little face surrounded in dark hair, pale enough to show blue veins in his temples.
Picture: Crappy pen drawing, hurray!
Personality
Likes: Cats, writing (he’s very bad at that), croquet, human biology, spoonerisms, portmanteaus, & other abuses of language.
Dislikes: Eating, being treated as a boy.
Fears: Bugs with wings, weight gain, being physically unappealing to men (although his appearance can look quite garish sometimes)
Goals: Become a housewife, own lots of cats, successfully sew two cats together while still living.
Self Esteem Level: It hinges on the praise of others, but for the most part he thinks highly of himself, sometimes thinking he’s more clever than he actually is.
Skills/Strengths: He is skilled with a needle & thread, as he used to be his father’s little helper in his infirmary.
Weaknesses: Being reprimanded at all, being called ugly or insane.
Overall Personality: Godelieve acts sickly-saccharine & childish to everyone, especially men. He has a sort of gender dysphoria where he assumes a female role & stereotypes & intentionally speaks in a higher voice, but still allows others to refer to him as a boy. He is easily put into a rage from things as small as a stain on his frock, & will lash out at anyone in a fit, guilty or innocent.
Background
Parents/Guardians: Rosemund Valens, a quiet widower with a questionable hospital in his basement.
Siblings: Godelieve is the middle child; his younger brother is Fabrice, older brother is Rosaire. Fabrice has gone on to try & make a stable family, pulling away from his upbringing.
Significant Other: None.
Place of birth: Romania.
History: Rosemund Valens had children for the sole purpose of free lab rats. Fabrice & Rosaire were commonly abused hideously in the name of science. Godelieve, however, was his little princess, & allowed to help with minor stitching (like sewing his brothers’ eyes shut, for example), & was rewarded with nice dresses & toys. Rosemund recognized the odd behavior in his son, but encouraged his gender dysphoria & schizophrenic thoughts so he could be studied.
Godelieve was just the favorite, because he was small & pretty as a kid & his father liked him the same way he liked a bauble you might keep on the mantle. Their mother died "mysteriously", i.e.: Rosemund buried her in the backyard after she was done popping out children & told the children she left because they were bad. Rosemund started out small with his little experiments so as not to arouse her suspicion, but once she came to suspecting too much he knew it was time for her to go.
Godelieve likes his father because he is the favorite & didn't treat him like a lab rat, as Rosemund just distracted him from his brothers' pain by saying how pretty he was, & how great of a little nurse he was becoming, so Godelieve didn't really consider his brothers to have feelings & just liked the attention. He also is very interested in sewing & medical things, & his father convinced him his brothers didn't actually mind the treatment. So to Godelieve, pain is an alien thing he did to people he loved. His father kept him separate from his brothers so they wouldn't try to rebel or coerce him onto their side.
It started with what Rosemund claimed were vitamins. Godelieve, of course, was the control, so he would not have any. His brothers would get sick constantly from taking different medicines from their father. Godelieve would be in charge of taking their blood, drying their vomit-spattered mouths, patting their arms & saying he would fix them right up as he painfully jabbed needles into their arms. He was oblivious. When their mother questioned Rosemund, he claimed he was once a sickly child, too. That his vitamins were helping them through their weak genetics. Godelieve was strong because he took more after his mother, of course.
With their mother gone, things got worse. Godelieve was given pet cats. Under his father's instructions, he would operate on them & put them back together. "Your brothers," his father explained to him, "are the very same as these cats. There are little organs in them that need to come out & imperfections that need to be smoothed with your thread. Yes, the cats squalled when you laid hands on them, but afterwards they were right as rain & they still purred at your touch."
Godelieve was not taught finesse. His brothers' screaming were the same as mewling cats to him; they were just whining, of course. Through wanting to fix his brothers, Godelieve relished in operating on them until the initial goal of healing their so-called imperfections was lost. There was only causing pain, over & over again. He thought it was all just good fun. He didn't consider the fact that his brothers were suffering; he thought they were like animals. He didn't think of them as capable as the same feelings as himself, as that is what his father taught him.
Once his children grew too old to suppress, Rosemund had no need for them. As Godelieve had turned into a little monster who was constantly trying to leach affection from him, his father simply dumped him at the asylum & never looked back.
